CURTIN UNIVERSITY BOILERS AND CHILLERS UPGRADE

WITH THE CURRENT BOILERS AND CHILLERS AT, OR OVER CAPACITY AT THE BENTLEY CAMPUS, WE WERE ENGAGED TO INSTALL NEW BOILERS AND CHILLERS TO MEET CURRENT NEEDS, AS WELL AS FUTURE PROOFING THE UNIVERSITY AS PART OF THE GREATER CURTIN PROJECT WITHOUT ANY DISRUPTION TO CAMPUS SERVICES

Features of this project included:

An ECI project with over 75% of the works being completed by our carefully chosen mechanical subcontractor, we were engaged as Head Contractor to ensure OHS on this high risk project was maintained, programme adhered to and stakeholder management and communication was carried out across the course of the project

Working closely with all key stakeholders we facilitated this increase in capacity. With inground services being unknown in parts, we undertook scanning in surrounding areas to not only safely undertake the works but to also to provide new documents with marked up drawings of these services locations.

Works required extensive planning and scanning to ensure that no disruptions were made to the campus so that it remained fully operational at all times. Crane lifts to deliver and install the new boilers and chillers were orchestrated out of hours to mitigate risk, requiring Perth Airport approvals, traffic management plans, road closure permits and open communication with the university to enable them to inform all stakeholders of upcoming works.

To install new gas lines we had to create a new gas cage for the ATCO gas meters and then trench across the carpark and into the building. With unknowns in the ground significant scanning and planning was undertaken to complete the works.

By undertaking workshops with our key trade partners, we formulated a detailed methodology that enabled these upgrades safely, with no disruption, on programme and budget
